Nothing Fancy

The day started by getting ready to take a day trip up to Guffey, CO, to check out a car show and listen to a band called “Foggiest Notion”.

Once we arrived in Guffey and got the vehicles parked we walked around and looked at the cars that were in the car show. There were probably about 20 – 25 cars on display. While I was photographing some of the cars my wife Jamie and her mom Regina  directed me towards a car they were sitting near. They had asked me if I had read the small story about the car that was posted in the rear driver side window. I told them I had not. I went ahead and took some pictures of the Ford Model A. Not sure what year this car was. The car car was nothing fancy. To me this car looked like an old barn find. I went around to the side of the car that had a small bit of history about the car on a sheet of paper in the rear driver side window.

The paper read:
“This car was put into storage in 1959, in North Dakota. It was taken out of storage in 2009. Fluids were changed, rewired, tires and cleaned fuel tank were all that  were done.
With fresh gas it statred right up.

We have been driving it since with no other work to it. It has 56,000 original miles and appears as it was in the 1950’s. Most model A’s were not all shiny when they were 25 years old.

They were used as a utilitarian vehicle to go from point A to point B. A steel top saved the wood and original upholstery. The repaint was probably done in the 40’s.

We plan to keep it like this as an example of a car that was typical of one with 25 years of use.”

By looking at the car you could see that it was all original. The paint was faded and you could also see another layer of paint below the top layer. The interior had definitely seen better days. You could also see some rust on some of the chrome, although there was not alot of chrome on this car.

This is the history of the car that was in the window.

A Cool Ol’ Tow Truck

In the small mining town of Victor, Colorado there is this old tow truck that sits on the side of J.E.T. Service. The truck is a 1942 Chevrolet. I believe the nickname for the truck was “Betsy”. This old tow truck is pretty popular amongst photographers. I am not sure how many times I have photographed this truck but it is definitely a favorite subject of mine to photograph. I can remember when I was a boy growing up in Victor and seeing this tow truck driving down the street or towing a wrecked car. I am not sure when it was retired. It has been sitting in the same spot now for several years.
I last photographed the truck back in 2011 and its that image that has been one of my most popular images. I titled that image “Retired”.

Retired

I need to get back up to Victor and photograph this old truck again. I know that since I have photographed last that a lot of the paint has faded. I think from what I was told by the daughter of the original owner said that it was last painted in the 70’s. The truck is still owned by the family. The grandson owns the garage and the truck now. I would really like to see this old truck on the road again.
